NAURU. Ron, ZL1AMO, is now on as C21/ZL1AMO. Check the low end of
30 meters for him between 1045 and 1200z. Ron hopes to move on to
Western Kiribati, T30, after this.
FRENCH POLYNESIA. Ron, N6VO, is now active from Tahiti as FO5VO.
He prefers CW, so check the low end of the bands. He has been
spotted on 14023 kHz around 0045z. QSL via N6VO.
CHINA. George, KA3NRG, is in Beijing on business for the month of
May. His free time is limited but he will try to operate the ususal
SSB DX frequencies as time allows. QSL via K3WS.
CRETE ISLAND. Julius, HA6NY, plans to be active on RTTY from May 24
to 31. Try 3582, 7038, 10185, 14085, 21085 and 28085 kHz.
YEMEN. 3Y0PI operator Robert, N4GCK, has received permission to
operate as 7O0CW. He could be active as early as July, though news
reports indicate that Yemen has edged toward civil war, with heavy
fighting around Aden.
BHUTAN. Jim, VK9NS, has spoken with the Ministry of Communication
of Bhutan and is awaiting permission to operate. Radio equipment
and a beam antenna are already in place. He may operate from
Bangladesh and Nepal enroute.
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. At the Dayton Hamvention, Don, WB2DND, said
he will return to the UAE in October and operate again as A61AD.
MARIANA ISLANDS. JA6VZB and JF6BCC will sign AH0T and KH2GR/KH0,
respectively, from May 26 to 30. Plans are to operate 160 through

contest.
UGANDA. Jim, 5X1B, will be QRT sometime in May. After a trip home
he will head for Cameroon.
ANTARCTICA. Due to budget cutbacks, the Vostok outpost, home of
4K1C, has been abandoned. The Vostok base holds the record for the
coldest spot on earth, 129 below zero, reported on July 21, 1983.
ARMED FORCES DAY. In a change for this year, all Armed Forces Day
military stations will be on the air during the 24 hour period from
1300z May 21 until 1300z May 22. This will give amateurs an
excellent chance to make cross band contacts with these stations. A
list of the military stations that will be active, their call signs,
frequencies, locations and modes they will be operating appears in
May QST on page 136.
PREFIX HUNTERS ALERT. CP94USA will be used by the La Paz Radio Club
station CP1AA during May and June. From May 28 to July 28 Canadian
amateurs may use the prefixes XK, XL, XO and VG. Nine Spanish
stations will be signing EG as a prefix, 1 through 9 as a region
designator, and ITU for the suffix, on ITU Day, May 17.
